Winter Cleaning!

So Chet decided last night-- and we had talked about it prior to this- but he decided our house was a wreck and we needed to do something about it-- ok-- lead the way !!

We've decided to each take a room-- since we work such odd different shifts- he's home when I'm not and I'm home when he's not-- so we're bored any way -- might as well get it all organized and disinfected and shiny clean!

I always have intentions of doing spring cleaning-- but when spring comes and its nice and warm and sunny I spend all my time outside-- and the inside of the house-- just goes to hell again!:)

So if any one has any great ideas on wonderful cleaning solutions- you know for grimy tubs-- sinks, floors, etc? I'd love to hear them - - also - - I need some organizational tips-- I have good intentions, but just no idea where to start-- I have bills and mail and whatever else gets brought in from outside -- cluttering up my kitchen-- I need to find a spot for everything! So what do I need little buckets? Or files ? Or what? Let me know what works for you !

Thanks

i've become really good at throwing things away -- especially mail. before it even comes in the house, i ditch all the catalogs, credit card applications, and other crap that i don't even need to look at. keep a garbage can or sack by the door to dump it all in when you walk in. i also have a magnet or a clip on the door to put stiff that needs to be mailed. it's hard to walk past and forget it when it's staring you in the face.

If you're going to clean a specific room (like a bedroom or something) I always have 4 piles or boxes as I go through everything: garbage, give away (DI), put away in a different room, and put away in the room I'm cleaning. That helps to get things started. With papers and stuff, we have a plastic file thing where we keep all the important stuff like bills and other stuff like that. In our kitchen I have a basket where I keep all the junk mail and when it's full I shred it all-- like once a month or every other month. I try to give everything a "home" so everything has a place and you don't feel so overwhelmed by "stuff" all over. I wish I could come help you-- I love to organize!! :) When you're thinking of whether or not you need to keep something think to yourself, "have I used this in the last year?" I sometimes have a hard time getting rid of stuff but that thought helps me. :) Good luck. Take some before and after pictures!

I have more to say!

I love the show Studio 5 on KSL and last month the theme was Getting Organized. Here is a link to their website where viewers wrote in things that help them get and stay organized.
