On Wednesday, August 26, 2009, I was feeling wonderful (for a 9month pregnant chick)!! I was passing my time, taking pictures of vegetables I had pulled out of the garden that resembled - well you see for your self what it resembles-- I was laughing to hard to not take a picture of it-- Chet was not as amused- But he still got a good chuckle out of it-- I sent these with him in his lunch-- heheheh!

Sorry, what can I say-- I was out of other options to entertain myself and Chet was leaving for work.
Chet had been working overnights all week -- and that was going fine-- he was home during the day -- sleeping of course-- and working all night-- so when I was sleeping-I had the bed all to myself-- very nice!
Like I said I was feeling great!
Chet left for work around 10:00 p.m. and I went to bed-- fell right to sleep and slept wonderfully!! I woke up around 5:00 to pee (pregnant bladder-- I can't believe it doesn't grow along with everything else!!)
Once I was up-- I couldn't get back to sleep-- I got up and started a load of laundry, knowing Chet would be home soon and we could go back to bed for a little while until I had to get up for work. Chet got home around 5:30 while I was finishing up my laundry -- He laughed when he came in and saw me doing laundry. He said when he pulled in and saw all the lights on he figured it was time to go-- but nope-- I was just doing laundry.
Chet took a Tylenol PM-- (so he could sleep good that day) and we both crawled back into bed.
We were talking a little and Chet was asking if I was excited to meet Vermin-- yes I was - I had finally gotten to that point where I wanted to meet him soon!!
Chet had his arm around my belly and suddenly it felt like a huge fart bubble rumbled down from my ribs along my side-- then Whammo-- felt like someone took a fist and smashed it into my cervix-- oh ouch I said-- that was weird-- and sat up to see if I could fix the pain-- I got up and walked into the hall and suddenly sprung a leak-- yup-- my water broke!!
OH boy -- Chet looked over and said I think your water just broke-- uhm, yup-- but we were in no rush!! Everyone has told me that it takes hours and hours on your first kid-- and I wasn't having any contractions yet! Chet got dressed and I puttered around putting last minute things (mostly to entertain myself during labor) in my bag and getting the outfit to take the baby home!
All sorts of emotions were running through my head-- I was finally gonna meet my baby! About 3 minutes after my water broke-- the contractions started-- with each contraction (that were coming ever 2 minutes) I leaked more andmore-- eek!! Finally I threw on some pants and we were on our way!! OOh the contractions were irritating-- they said they'd start out slow and be spaced out-- these were continuosly every 2 minutes-!! About half way to the hospital-- I sprung a leak through my pants-- oh well right-- that is why we scotchguarded the seats! We pulled in-- I got out and soaked my sandals-- now I felt like I had peed my pants and was walking just like that --soaking wet front and back from the waist down! Oh how fun--
Labor and Delivery -- oh hello-- yes my water broke-- ok-- they were not panicked and neither was I-- I figured I had long time to panic!!
I got in the room and nurse came in-- seeing that I was having contractions-- she started moving faster! Got me hooked up to the monitors and in bed!! Oh what an uncomfortable bed!! Once in bed I immediately asked to get out--
I had heard walking or bouncing on the big ball would help speed things up-- she agreed I could-- and immediately took it back as the baby's heart rate dipped to a super low rate-- and sent buzzers and beepers going off-- she rolled me to my side and he picked it back up-- but now I was super concerned!! Clinging to the rail on the bed-- watching the heart rate monitor--and getting more and more nervous as with each contraction his heart rate would dip down into the 50's eeek!!
The nurse came and and I could see she was concerned-- she checked me and I was dilated to a 1-- that's it-- seriously-- she thought I was dehydrated and that is why I was having such fast contractions-- she tried to start an IV with no luck-- after 3 unsuccessful sticks-- she got someone else to do it--
She offered some pain meds via IV-- because can't have an epidrual yet-- you are only at a one-- and besides anesthesia is in a C-section and will be about 45 minutes-- ok--I can wait!
AS soon as she offered iv drugs-- she took it back -- as the baby's heart rate was just not stable enough-- Ok-- that's fine-- I'll be fine!
The doctor finally arrived- about 20 minutes later-- checked me and I was dilated to a 4- alright progress!!
But still laying on my side in a very much uncomfortable state!! I was quickly being unable to deal with the thought that something was wrong with the baby!
The doctor came back about 20 minutes later and checked me again-- this time people started moving-- I was dilated to a 7 and opening up fast-- he went and found me an epidural-- and came back in scrubs-- time to start pushing-- you are kidding me-- they said it would take hours, maybe days--
So I had the nurse roll over the rear view mirror (no pun intended on the rear viewpart!)
And she gave me directions on pushing-- ok-- simple enough--
I was wishing my epidural would take effect-- I was still not numb on one side! GRRR!
The doctor was no in his catcher's position and had moved my mirror out of the way --here comes your baby--
After about 4 pushes--
a head popped out-- I was trying to watch it all unravel in the doctors' glasses!
Chet was wonderful-- counting every push out with me!!
Telling me how great I was doing--
Then no more pushing- out pops a shoulder-- shoulder--
And then the weirdest feeling ever- honestly felt like I just had my guts ripped out of me--
A quick spin-- like a ball of yarn
and a baby plopped on my belly!!
The chord had been wrapped around his neck 2 times and once around his shoulders-- no wonder his heart rate was dropping-- the chord was soo tight the doctor couldn't slip it off and had to do a yarn roll to unravel him as soon as he was born!
What a weird feeling--
I'm not sure what I expected-- but it was weird-- something I'd been feeling move inside me for the last forever months-- was now screaming on my stomach!!
The nurses whisked him away -- and chet got out the video camera!
What a proud papa he was!
Baby Boy
6 pounds 15 ounces
20 1/2 inches long
Lots of dark hair
The baby immediately peed all over himself-- heheheh (that hasn't stopped!)
Chet stole the baby from the nurses and brought him to me-- Oh soo cute-- wide eyed and perfect!
He still had no name!
As soon as we got a minute alone-- we took off his hat and tried to think of a name!
Porter! Porter is perfect!
Then the whirl wind of new room--
Babies first Bath
and all the other fun stuff that goes along with giving birth!

Proud Papa-- with his brand new son!

Why does everyone keep looking at me!

Check out my mohawk! The nurses in the nursery were having fun!!

Gramma Thompson, addoring her newest grandchild!

Grandpa Thompson with his newest fishing buddy!

Grandpa Purcell, showing Porter how to play the piano (this picture was taken on the 13th of September!) He loves the music!

What a good daddy-- he took to father-hood like a fish to water! He was not timid or scared of the baby (unlike his wife!)

Our First Family Picture!
After All that Time! What a Wonderful Family!

Becky! He's SO sweet!! Congrats to both of you! Glad things went fast and weren't long and drawn out like some of the labor and delivery horrors I've heard.
I've been waiting for the pictures too! Maybe I should just drive up the road and see the real thing, huh? I just might one day. How are you doing? Congratulations! I love the name Porter. Way to go... fast labor!
He is soooo adorable! Really. It sounds like you did great! It's just like you to get it done and get it done FAST. I love that Chet is all about being a daddy, so cute! I can't wait to see Porter in the flesh and snuggle the little guy.
Oh how fun! It was fun to read your baby story. He sure is a keeper! Made me baby hungry I think!
